Music Producer Jay Fenix Has the Midas Touch

While other producers go to great lengths to ensure that the world knows their name, producer Jay Fenix is more concerned that listeners know his music. A true artist and student of the music industry, Fenix has been turning heads with his penchant for making timeless music. The producer recently sat down with rolling out to discuss everything from making hits to inspiration. –djr

How does it feel to get recognized for your production work on hit songs like Melanie Fiona’s “It Kills Me?”

First of all, I consider it a blessing. Before anything, it’s always great to be acknowledged for the work you put out and it’s truly a blessing, man. You always as an artist hope that one day people can recognize it and be able to see it.

I’m sure that once your first song hits, then everyone wants to work with you. How difficult is it to then to just start cranking out songs?

It can be difficult, and I’m actually going through that now. The reason that I say it can be difficult is because creativity doesn’t work that way. It kind of operates on its own time. Like when I did “It Kills Me,” I just went with a feeling that I had inside. I wasn’t thinking about making a hit or meeting a deadline. So that part is something that I’m still getting used to.

What inspires you to make music?

Everything. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I begin to be inspired by everything. I can hear something; listen to something on the radio, talk to someone, or just read and I become inspired. There are just so many things that this world offers that allows me to be inspired. I can’t really pinpoint it; I just try to embrace those moments and make great music.
