This week in Detroit, Eddie Franklin, son of Motown great and grammy award winning singer Aretha Franklin was severely beaten at a gas station according to a family spokesperson. He is now in the hospitial after undergoing surgery for the attack that happened at a gas station near Plymouth and Evergreen on Monday night on the northwest side of Detroit.
In a statement, Gwendolyn Quinn indicated that three people may have been involved in the attack, but did not provide a motive. Eddie Franklin, 52, was attacked by three people – two men and a woman. Detroit police spokeswoman Eren Stephens added that Franklin was with a female acquaintance right before the beating occured.
Police also stated the woman then drove Franklin to the hospital and then drove to a police station to file a report.
Franklin made a guest appearance on his mother’s latest release earlier his year, singing “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” on the CD titled “A Woman Falling Out of Love.” Described as a talented singer, he was active in his church gospel chior. In fall 2002, Franklin was considered a suspect in a fire at a $1.6 million Bloomfield Township mansion his mother used for storage, but was cleared after an investigation conducted by the Michigan Attorney General Office. There are no details on his condition at this time.
