We had just spent an entire piece lavishing praise on the sensibilities of singer Bruno Mars, and he couldn’t even wait a week before he decided to mess up. The singer, whose real name is Peter Martinez, was recently booked on suspicion of possession of cocaine while in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ.com, the talented hit maker was caught in a bathroom stall at the Hard Rock Hotel, after an attendant informed security that he could “see a male in a striped red shirt with a baggy of white, powder substance.”
Cops moved in and say they asked Mars to “give over whatever narcotics he had.” According to the report, Bruno then “pulled out a white powder substance, which was consistent with cocaine, from his left-front jeans pocket.”
Mars was then transported to Clark County Detention Center and booked on narcotics possession. He was released the same day. A spokesperson for the Clark County District Attorney’s office says that it will decide by the end of the week if criminal charges will be filed against the crooner.
Dang Bruno … we had such high hopes for you. From this most recent case, to T.I. and Paris Hilton, the message kids are getting from their favorite stars is a little unsettling. Their actions continue to reinforce the notion that consequences don’t exist when you break the law. Something has to change. –djr
