Throngs of curious onlookers assembled at the Twist nightclub in Atlanta to witness a pre-scheduled car crash: the viewing party for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
Right after the credits rolled, the tongues started wagging, the TV screen started shaking and mass confusion and drama popped off. And the masses were enthralled with the bludgeoning. Afterwards, fans’ eyes gleam with anticipation for more bloodletting in the ensuing episodes. And, according to Kandi Burruss, one of the castmates of the “RHOA,” the fans will surely get their fill of coonery.
NeNe Leakes roars at her husband Gregg with blowtorch intensity over a rumor that Dwight Eubanks had loaned her husband $10,000. After she confronts Gregg, who says the loan was only for $500, she confronts Dwight at a boutique opening and spits acid all over his carefully cultivated curl and reconstructed face, demanding to know if he did make the loan without her knowledge and why Dwight chose to share this information with others.
Kim Zolciak took slight delight in the NeNe-Dwight fracas, saying: “There’s no self-control,” Kim said. “She took all her anger out on Dwight. I’m just glad it’s not me this time.” She also opined on her and NeNe’s roller-coaster friendship: “As long as she’s not choking me, we’re laughing.”
Phaedra Parks, 38, comes on the show hauling more luggage than the Atlanta airport. The entertainment lawyer is very pregnant and married to Apollo Nida, 31, who recently emerged from doing a long bid for racketeering. Not that she allowed any of this to interrupt her morbid absorption with herself.
“I’m fabulous. I’m fierce and I’m beautiful. I know I can have it all,” she proclaims, before insulting women from every other geographical region on the planet: “Southern women have a certain type of charm, a gracefulness that most women in other parts of the world don’t have.”
Just how much of this visual cesspool of backbiting, pettiness, narcissism, conspicuous consumption, and overall low-brow theater can viewers gorge themselves on is beyond me. Pass the Pepto-Bismol.
Oh, yeah, some good news: Kandi Burruss’ new single “Leave You” is now available on iTunes. –terry shropshire
