South Carolina Pastor Wrong to Plan Protest Rally Against Bishop Eddie Long at Georgia Capitol

The Bishop Eddie L. Long sex scandal has descended into the realm of the ridiculous. A South Carolina pastor has announced that he plans to host a protest rally against the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church at the Georgia state capitol in Atlanta.

Bishop Prophet H. Walker of the True Light Pentecostal Church says his fellow clergyman is far from fit to continue his reign and calls for Bishop Long to resign his post.

“He has no right to assume the office of pastor of a Christian church,” said Walker from Spartanburg, S.C. “A pastor should be above reproach.”

Last time I checked, Long was not wearing a saddle, so you can’t ride him out of New Birth. The legal system, which Long is now entangled in, will determine his guilt or innocence and the appropriate action will subsequently be taken.

Interestingly enough, Bishop Walker intially refused to pay Bishop Long‘s controversy any attention.

“When this first came out, I wouldn’t follow it,” Walker said. But as the number of lawsuits grew, he said he decided to speak out, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He should have retained that position.

Bishop Walker, like Bishop Long, does not support homosexuality. He says the rally will “support the integrity and character of the Christian faith.”

Walker’s title is “Bishop Prophet.” If he is indeed a prophet, then he should have received or be confident that he will receive some sort of divine message that the situation will be resolved sooner or later with the facts of the case revealed plainly for all to see.

Walker’s public outburst smacks of opportunism and is designed to bring undeserved attention to his ministry. If Walker joined the millions of Christians around the nation who have or are praying about the situation that it will ensure a quicker resolution to this debacle.

Besides, there are enough who have climbed aboard the Bishop Long train of haters. Please, Bishop Walker, stay in South Carolina and do not turn this situation into a personal vendetta and pathetic spectacle for mass media consumption.

One final thought: If the media began training its unforgiving spotlight on Bishop Walker’s personal life unrelentingly, some unseemly aspect of his life as well might be uncoverd as well. This is the modern version of trying to stone Bishop Long to death. And we know what Jesus had to say about that. terry shropshire
