Beanz N Kornbread Produces First Single for Houston Singer Dallas Blocker

altA slightly shy yet debonair vocalist hailing from Houston, Dallas Blocker is well on his way to dominating the R&B scene in the South. He may have recently produced a hit radio single, but his success was far from instantaneous.

With his father being a pastor, it was during his childhood that Blocker began polishing his chops.

“I’ve been singing since I was seven in church, but it’s been about 12 years since I started pursuing a music career,” Blocker said.

Nearly five years ago, Blocker had a song with fallen Houston rapper Hawk, which made it to the airwaves. He was previously signed to Mathew Knowles’ label Music World and also worked with Bryan-Michael Cox. He now owns his own production company named Blockerboy Music and is signed to T.R. Records.

“It definitely didn’t happen overnight,” Blocker said of the move.

Blocker’s sound commands the affection of the ladies while still earning the respect of the fellas.

“I draw my inspiration from personal life experiences, beautiful women and old school music,” he explained.

He’s garnered support from the Texas hip-hop scene by working with nearly every major Houston hip-hop heavyweight — Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Lil Flip, Trae The Truth, Lil Keke and even national artist Rick Ross.

“I’m a musician, so I love to do all different genres of music,” Blocker said, adding that he actually wants to produce music to fill the void of serious male R&B vocalists. He credits Stevie Wonder as his favorite musician.

Hit producing duo Beanz N Kornbread wrote and produced Blocker’s first single, “Rock Ya Body,” while he wrote his second single, “To The Room.”

It was during a Hip-Hop for HIV Concert in Dallas when Blocker saw his name paired with a sign reading “Act 1” that he realized it would become the title of his debut album.

“I’m in no rush to get [the album] out; I’m working on raising awareness globally before the release,” said Blocker.

While he’s known to be reserved and quiet, sexually charged lyrics like, “I want to rock your body all night long till the break of dawn” are sure to keep all eyes on him.

“You don’t have to be loud to be heard,” he said. “I go for silent strength.” –callye peyrovi
