West Coast Hip-Hop Pioneer Uncle Jamm Dies of a Heart Attack
One of the first promoters ever on the West Cost, Rodger “Uncle Jamm” Clayton, died yesterday of a heart attack. Jamm played a key role during the introduction of hip-hop in California by throwing parties that had every hip-hop head on the west coast in the house. Clayton had parties packed when technology such as emails and texting was yet to even be thought of!
Because of Clayton, artist like Ice T, Egyptian Lover, and DJ Pooh got established.
L.A. radio programmer Greg Mack offered his condolences for the left coast vet in a statement, saying:
“Rodger Clayton, leader of Uncle Jamm’s Army, was one of the most influential people on the west coast when it comes to the hip-hop movement … I’m proud to say that he and I had many talks over the last few years regarding all that had happened in his life and mine. We talked about a lot of things, and more importantly, we found out how much respect we did have for each other. He and I also would comment on how “little” documentation there has been of the West Coasts’ rap history, we both felt it inadequate. And I still do. I will miss him.”
Clayton was 51 years old.
Young Jeezy’s “Thug Motivation 103” Pushed Back Again
Fans have been waiting all summer for Jeezy’s new album, TM 103 to be released, and unfortunately they will have to wait even longer. Jeezy’s new album was supposed to be released first in June, then was pushed back to Aug. 31 and was then pushed back to Sept. 28. I guess Jeezy still isn’t quite happy with the finished product, because the new release date for the album will now be Dec. 14. To keep the fans hyped, Jeezy released a new mixtape, The Last Laugh, last week for fans to enjoy until December.
