Kanye West Finally Speaks Out on VMA Incident Last Year
Last year, Kanye West shocked everyone when he jumped on stage and took the mic from country star Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at MTV’s Video Music Awards. Kanye quickly went downhill after he lashed out on stage, causing him to go into hiding and go into rehab to re-evaluate his life. West is back with new music and a new album. In a Vanity Fair interview, West discusses the night that changed his life. Check out an excerpt from the interview below.
LISA ROBINSON: Looking back on last year’s MTV Awards, when you interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech — you said Beyoncé was robbed, and a lot of us agreed with you. How do you feel about it now?
KANYE WEST: Well, it was very punk rock and revolutionary and idealistic and very angry in a way. But the timing was in poor taste. And the other two things I’ve learned since then are humility and empathy — to be empathetic to other people’s feelings. To care about how much this must mean to someone else, and not to think that my ideals or my righteousness are more important than someone else’s feelings.
L.R. What did you want to do with your new album?
K.W. I wanted to take it back to the essence, like the soulful people who brought knowledge — like RZA and Q-Tip. At a certain point, you need to find a better way to do it; it’s like people [in basketball] who dunk and hurt their wrist and come down on their knees too hard. Your knee’s gonna give out at a certain point. Some of my social and public-persona knees are starting to give out. I still want to run the games. I’ve just got to not get kicked up quite as hard.

Lupe Fiasco Talks About Meeting With Atlantic Records
Lupe Fiasco has been battling his record label, Atlantic Records, over the release of his album. Lupe’s album has been finished for quite some time now and fans have been demanding for it to be released. However, Atlantic decided not to release it for various reasons. Fans quickly became upset and took the next step by starting a petition and threatening to protest.
After a meeting last week, Lupe and Atlantic have come to terms that the new album, Lasers, will be released March 8, 2011, and his first official single will debut on Oct. 26.
Lupe recently spoke about this issue with WorldUp.org explaining his meeting with Atlantic and that Social Networks played a big part in finally being able to give a release date.
“Everybody got to say what they wanted, and we had a good meeting about it. Everything is fine; we are walking hand and hand into the sunset. We got the album released because of the fans, marches, petitions and protests, and everything. The people worked, they listened, they heard. It started on social media. It was all these different kids from all over the world connected into these one or two forums or blogs that everybody frequented,” said Lupe. That’s where they kind of organized it, and you could see it in real time. They got a checklist of things that need to take care of, who’s going to get the vans, who’s going to get the permits who’s going to write the press release, who’s going to do ‘da, da, da,’ and check it off. So, it’s like a real-time collective growing social activity, which is dope.”
Mary J. Blige Poses For Ebony
Mary J. Blige channels Diana Ross for the 65th issue of Ebony magazine. Diana Ross posed in this same outfit for Ebony in 1970. Do you think they look alike?
