AT&T’s Leadership Development Program Hosts Casino Night With Doug Stewart of the '2 Live Stews'

AT&T’s Leadership Development Program strives to provide community outreach for urban areas and organizations in need. Each year, LDP participants choose to give their time, money and efforts to various organizations and charities as a way of giving back. In 2009, the LDP’s Casino Night and Social Affair raised over $3,500 for Hosea Feed the Hungry. As a result, the LDP community outreach committee decided to host a second annual Casino Night with hopes of raising over $5,000 for Books for Africa and Finch Elementary School. Shannon Brown of LDP discusses the organization’s upcoming event. –a.r.

What can attendees expect from the LDP’s second annual Casino Night?

The event will be hosted by Doug Stewart of the “2 Live Stews.” There will be live music, casino games, and a silent auction. This is a fun and unique way to bring together our Atlanta community for a night of giving back.

How will this night benefit Books for Africa and Finch Elementary?

Casino Night will benefit these two worthy organizations in two different but equally by raising awareness and raising funds. Books for Africa uses its donations to pay for the shipping of the donated books once they are sorted and packed. Finch Elementary can use funds in a variety of ways such as the purchase of library books, paraphernalia with the school’s logo, to funding special events like Dr. Seuss Day. While one-time donations are crucial for these groups to succeed in their missions, awareness of the causes on which they work can have a greater impact over the long term. By highlighting one elementary school and one small nonprofit, LDP is hoping to draw attention to educational needs both in our community and around the world and inspire others to continue to assist these causes in the future.

Why was it important for Doug Stewart to be involved in this event?

Doug does great works with his foundation, The Stewart Education Foundation, which supports education and mentoring by providing financial assistance, raising public awareness, and partnering with colleges, universities and local mentoring organizations. This was a good opportunity for us to partner with a local organization that wants to make a difference in the lives of all children.

The LDP’s second annual Casino Night will take place at STATS in Atlanta on Oct. 15 from 6-10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online @ ldpcasinonight.eventbrite.com/ or at the door on the day of the event. www.tsefonline.org/
