The wife of Fred Robbins of the St. Louis Rams, Tia Robbins, has created a company that aims to keep athletes faithful to their spouses.
Robbins launched “Off the Market” last year and 40 pro athletes and their wives attended her first event. The company’s mission is to host invitation-only events where couples can experience exciting moments and realize the benefits of maintaining a healthy marriage through fidelity.
Robbins should be commended for her efforts to encourage pro athletes to honor the sanctity of marriage, but her business will likely have a minimum effect on the numbers of pro athletes who cheat. Although there are pro athletes who remain committed to their wives, most have a difficult time rejecting the numerous women that millionaires in their 20s and early 30s can easily attract.
If Robbins wants to make a difference when it comes to pro athletes and infidelity, she should create a Web site called www.dontgetmarrieduntilyourplayingdaysareover.com.
Some women are persistent when seeking to sexually entice a man of status and most young athletes are too immature to turn down every sexual advance. So to increase the chances of having a faithful marriage, the majority of pro athletes should wait until they retire and their fame wanes before they settle down and tie the knot. –a.r.
