The Black McDonald’s Owners Association held the Herman Petty Memorial “Hoops for the House” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at Unity Junior High gymnasium.

This event was a benefit fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House located near the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital. The tournament — which is named for one of the first African American McDonald’s franchise owners, Herman Petty — featured games, prizes and refreshments. The competion was fierce but friendly and open to boy, girls, men and women ages 10 to 35. Trophys were presented to winners in each age category.

Ronald McDonald House is a nonprofit charity that enables families to live near their children for a nominal cost while the tykes are undergoing treatment. All proceeds were donated to the Ronald McDonald House. Major sponsors included AON; rollingout.com; the BMOA; and Cricket, which provided cell phones as raffle items.
