Defensive tackle of the Atlanta Falcons has been named the new “Ambassador” and spokesperson for Easter Seals in Georgia. He’ll help promote awareness of the organization’s mission to ensure that children with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities.
Easter Seals in Georgia along with a dedicated team of therapists, teachers, and health professionals has been providing services to low-income children and adults with disabilities for more than 50 years. But for the last 10 years the organization has been without a high profile representative to bring attention to its fundraising and volunteer needs as well making the community aware of its resources.
Enter Jonathan Babineaux, who saw the need and stepped in to fill the void. He signed on to help special needs children and their families get the assistance that they so desperately need.
At 6 feet 2 inches and 296 pounds, this top-ranked NFL defensive tackle may seem intimidating on the football field, but off of it he has a heart of gold. Babineaux, a proud father of two, along with Easter Seals president and CEO Donna Davidson, is now taking on a task that is bigger than defending quarterbacks, he is advocating for children who need a voice.
Recently, at T.J. Guice Headstart and Early Headstart Program run by Easter Seals, the 29-year-old athelete was officially named as the new Ambassador for Easter Seals North Georgia Chapter. Being a family man, Babineaux was a natural with the school’s students. He played, interacted, sang, hugged, and picked up babies during his tour of the facility.
Jonathan is no stranger to giving of his time for charity work. Recently, he participated in an Atlanta Falcons sponsored breast cancer survivor campaign and bagged groceries at a local Publix store.
“My job as the ambassador for Easter Seals is to go out into the community and spread the word about the work that this wonderful organization does on a daily basis servicing more than 3,000 children. I also want to get the community more involved and have them come and donate their time and financial resources in order to help Easter Seals continue to service the children on a daily basis,” Babineaux says of the appointment. -christa e. jackson
