CHICAGO (Nov. 5, 2010) – The many ways the Chicago Urban League has impacted, influenced and inspired success in the community will be celebrated at the civil rights organization’s 49th Annual Golden Fellowship Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Chicago at 720 S. Michigan Avenue. The gala, one of the most well-attended in the city, will be hosted by Golden Globe Award winning actress Angela Bassett and will feature a performance by seven-time Grammy Award winning music legend Al Jarreau. The dinner will also include the presentation of the prestigious Edwin C. “Bill” Berry Civil Rights Award to the Reverend Addie L. Wyatt, a pioneer in the struggle for social and economic justice for laborers, minorities and women.
“For nearly 94 years the Chicago Urban League has fought for equality and provided economic opportunity for African Americans and other minorities in metropolitan Chicago,” said Andrea L. Zopp, president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League. “The Golden Fellowship Dinner is an opportunity to thank our many partners for believing in our mission and helping us touch thousands of business owners, workers, students, homebuyers and families struggling to stay together. We also plan to create new and stronger partnerships that will increase our capacity to serve the community.”
The Golden Fellowship Dinner provides financial support for the civil rights and economic empowerment programs of the Chicago Urban League with key focus areas that include: education, entrepreneurship, housing counseling, human capital development, policy and research, and workforce development and diversity.
