LBoogie’s Tip:

Be creative and put together a playlist for your iPod to play while at work.
Here are some classic songs that inspire my creativity.

   1. Michael Jackson – “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”
   2. Marvin Gaye – “Got to Give it Up”
   3. Frankie Beverly & Maze – “Before I Let Go”
   4. Curtis Mayfield – “Move On Up”
   5. Taana Gardner – “Heartbeat”
   6. James Brown – “Doing it to Death”
   7. Prince – “Kiss”
   8. Sylvia Stripling  – “Can’t Turn Me Away”
   9. Al Green – “I’m Glad You’re Mine”
  10. The Isley Brothers – “For the Love of You”

Does playing a little Maxwell while working help you have a more productive day? The answer is yes! Listening to music is the best way to start your flow of creativity with motivation, fresh ideas or even effective organization. Lucky for you, there are multiple ways of incorporating music into your workplace.

First, try online radio sites like Pandora, Sirius Radio or AOL Radio. These stations offer continuous streaming of your favorite artist without doing any work. Choose a station and let them guide you throughout the day to help the time pass quickly and to put a little groove in your workday.

If you think you can select better songs than what’s offered online, then go to iTunes and create your own mix by making a playlist of the exact songs you want, in the order you want them. Mellow out and listen to your favorite neo-soul list or get hyped listening to classic West Coast hits.

One of my favorite ways to listen to music is via podcasts. They are available to search and play using iTunes or can be found on various Web sites like podcast.com. Once you find an episode that you like, you can subscribe to the podcast artist (most likely a DJ) and it will automatically update with a new podcast whenever it’s released. My favorite podcast is “Fro-Powah Hour” hosted by DJ Jamad. Check out his dope mixology skills at frolab.com.

With all of these music options, you are sure to stay in a productive mood while at work. But, don’t forget to be respectful of your environment. If your workplace is not a music-friendly environment, remember to keep your headphones handy. The last thing you want to do is bother your co-workers, especially if they are not fans of your music choice. –lboogie
