I’m currently on a plane en route to paradise, which is often referred to on Wikipedia as the Bahamas. As the plane continues to propel us closer to our destination, I figured it was time for me to start getting my mind right. After all, there is a certain strategy that has to be in place when traveling to paradise as a single man.
But here’s the thing: The tips that I’m about to share aren’t just for me — any single man or woman who travels overseas needs to apply the principles that will live with me over the next five days. So make sure you take detailed notes, as this is about to get good.
Tip 1: Forget About Sleep
Time doesn’t stand still, so it’s inevitable that the moment will arrive when I’ll be forced to climb back on the plane and head back to the real world. Since I have a finite amount of time in paradise, it’s imperative that I soak in every possible moment. What that means is sleep on this trip needs to become an afterthought. Whether that means I’m staying up thanks to coffee, Red Bull, or just sheer enthusiasm, I need to stay awake to experience the fullness of the culture.
Tip 2: Introduce Yourself to 3 New People Each Day
Another great tip for enjoying the culture as a single person is introducing yourself to three new people each day (no matter how shy you may be). Do you think that I’m really going to resist the urge to speak to the beautiful bohemian goddess leading my tour through the city of Nassau? Absolutely not. Every moment that presents itself to meet a new person — particularly the hot ones — will be a moment best spent in paradise.
Tip 3: Stay Away From ‘Americanized’ Activities
While I can’t predict every twist and turn that this week in the Bahamas will throw my way, what I can promise is that my mornings and evenings won’t be spent doing what I do in the States; i.e., watching televison and stuffing my face. No, that won’t happen. Every activity that I choose has to be steeped in a culture that’s unfamiliar to me. That will give me the best opportunity to not only be enriched, but also to meet great new people.
The Outlook
I’ll be sure to keep you posted on how my trip pans out. In the meantime, you can learn from my approach to the trip, by allowing yourself to dive into the culture and people that make up your future trips to paradise. It’s the only way that you’ll fully enjoy yourself, and get the most out of your trip as a single person.
Now if you’ll excuse me, the plane is about to land, and paradise awaits. –dewayne rogers
