NFL Legend Dave Meggett Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison; Why Sex Addiction Destroyed His Life

NFL Legend Dave Meggett Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison; Why Sex Addiction Destroyed His LifeFor nine seasons in the NFL, Dave Meggett stood out as an All-Pro kickoff returner and he even won a Super Bowl. His prestigious NFL career should have paved the way for him to maintain a prominent role in football once his playing days were over.

However, Meggett, 42, will have to spend the next 30 years of his life behind bars after being convicted of criminal sexual conduct and burglary in Charleston, S.C.

According to reports, a 21-year-old college student accused Meggett of raping her after he broke into her home seeking the $200 she owed him. Meggett never took the stand in his trial, but his lawyer argued that the sex was consensual.

However, Meggett’s history of being involved in several other sexual assault cases may have compromised his credibility. In 1998, he was arrested for assaulting an escort worker and he was sentenced to probation in 2007 for misdemeanor sexual battery.

It’s obvious that Meggett has a problem with sexual addiction. But It’s unfortunate that he didn’t seek counseling for the addiction before it destroyed his life. –a.r.
