Converse Introduces Next Star in Its Lineup: Converse Star Player Evo

alt

Most people remember Converse when the brand hit the scene back in the ’70s and it was the shoe worn by NBA greats like Dr. J. The first Converse Star Player had the silhouette of the Chuck Taylor All-Star shoe, but with a fresh performance, attitude and the iconic Star Chevron logo. But today’s Evo stands for evolution.

altThe Star Player Evo is next level, because it has the elements of the original and then adds features of breath-ability, performance, superior cushioning and impact protection. The shoe has a lightweight midsole and a breathable air-mesh-upper quarter panel and bootie. Finally, the shoe is topped of with a toe cap for durability, with the overall result being a “hot” shoe that performs incredibly well.

The EVO is currently only available in New York, but will be released around the country in late November at Foot Locker and Champs Sports stores. The retail price is $89.00 and the shoe comes in a variety of colors.

altAward-winning director Antoine Fuqua has been tapped to direct the shoe’s new ad, which  features basketball icon Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Miami Heat star Carlos Arroyo, musician Jim Jones, legendary ball-handler God Shammgod, Harlem streetball player Adrian “A-Butta” Walton, hip-hop icon Doug E. Fresh, along with skaters Kenny Anderson, Sammy Baca, Rune Glifberg,  and Eli Reed.

“The new Converse campaign is a perfect summary of who we are as a brand. It’s a celebration of people from different cultures who are passionate about what they do, coming together to create a movement. Converse is a brand that can authentically blend culture in a way that make sense for how people view and connect to sports, music, and culture today — without lines or barriers,” says Converse CMO Geoff Cottrill. christa e. jackson
