For the past four years, Leslie Frazier remained a prime candidate for a head coaching job in the NFL. After building a superb record as an assistant with the Super Bowl winning Indianapolis Colts and improving the defense for the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings, Frazier was the odds-on favorite to become the head coach of the Buffalo Bills or Seattle Seahawks.
However, after seven interviews, both organizations hired other coaches and Frazier was forced to remain an assistant with the Minnesota Vikings. This season, the Bills have only won two games out 10 and the Seahawks have won five.
But with the firing of head coach Brad Childress, Frazier will finally get the opportunity to serve as a head coach in the NFL. Frazier is currently only the seventh black head coach in the NFL and will seek to inspire a 3-7 team led by Brett Favre who is having an erratic year statistically.
Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers); Lovie Smith (Chicago Bears); Raheem Morris (Tampa Bay Bucs); and Jim Caldwell (Indianapolis Colts) are the four black coaches who are leading their teams to winning records this season. –a.r.
