It has been said that success changes people. Perhaps that’s what happened to Haitian-American actor Michael Brea. Brea has been accused of hacking his mother to death with a samurai sword and decapitating her.
According to police, the incident occurred in his mother’s Brooklyn, N.Y., apartment. Witnesses say Brea was chanting religious terms and that blood was visible on the apartment windows, prompting a neighbor to call 911.
His mother, Yannick Brea, 55, was found dead Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 2:20 a.m. Police said Brea was combative and that they had to use an electronic shock to subdue him. Brea was subsequently arrested and taken to Kings County Hospital for a psychiatric exam.
In addition to “Ugly Betty,” Brea appeared in the movie Step Up 3-D. His most recent acting job was a Coca-Cola ad campaign for the energy drink Full Throttle. –torrance stephens
