Black People + Church + Food = Funny

Black People + Church + Food = Funny

The interesting thing about black culture is that we, in many ways, are the most sensitive race of people on the planet. No matter what the context of a conversation, our go-to response is often to label something as racist when we don’t understand the motivations of those who are different from ourselves. Meanwhile, we are quick to stereotype and label other cultures using the same shortsightedness that we often accuse others of indulging in.

That was my prevailing sentiment as I watched the video below of a group of young blacks singing about the goodness of McDonald’s after church. As I watched the video and laughed uncontrollably, I sobering thought crossed my mind …

A white friend sent me this e-mail!!!

Now granted, I’m not one of those militant, “whitey is against us” type of brothers, but the following thoughts did cross my mind:

Why did he send this to me?

Is this how they think all black people are?

Can I not find this funny, because someone white sent it to me?

After I viewed it one more time, I came to the conclusion that this clip is hilarious. I also concluded that black people need to learn how to lighten up a bit. There’s a bit of truth found in ever stereotype, and sometimes we need to learn how to just accept it, and move on.

So I’m not going to declare a march on Washington because a white person forwarded me a clip of us being … well, us. No, I’m going to thank him, and then pay it forward by sharing it with you. Enjoy. –djr
