Veteran rapper Redman is back on the scene with a new sound and a new attitude. For the release of his seventh studio album titled Reggie, Redman has enlisted the help of current rolling out cover girl Faith Evans, partner-in-crime Method Man, and southern rap icon Bun B to produce an album that to him ranks right up there with any of his other projects.
The rapper has been making the media rounds to discuss everything from his new sound, to the likelihood of the smoker comedy How High 2 ever being made.
On the difference in his sound …
I wanted to step out of the box musically, and show growth in my rhymes and my musical choices. I think I have a job to do with my fans… to represent that 90s, soulful, substantial music that we’re missing now.
On the likelihood of How High 2 …
Universal is not giving up the names and characters. I’m like, ‘If you’re not gonna [let us] do it, why not just do the damn movie then and stop playing!
His take on the Grammy nominations …
I’m glad so many of the nominees were hip-hop, but they should have my man Rick Ross up in there. He definitely showed growth, worked hard and showed that he loves the music he’s making. He did a great job.
Redman’s Reggie album is in stores now. Check out the video for his first single “Def Jammable” below. –djr
