When you’re a celebrity, you’re conditioned to take the good with the bad. For every positive story that lands on the front page, there will be just as many negative ones to fill up the back pages — especially if you’re really popular. That’s the reality R&B star Trey Songz is forced to face as the wattage on his star increases.
For the most part, when negative stories surface, the company line for Songz and for many other celebs is to just brush it off, and chalk it up to “haters being haters.” But when rumors began to float around that Songz was gay … well, he wasn’t willing to sit quietly by and let that one simmer.
The singer addressed the rumor on the “Breakfast Club” morning show on Power 105.1 in New York. Here’s what he had to say:
“The first I heard about it was on a blog about a year ago and I remember the actual day because I was with my manager, Kevin. He [asked], ‘Did you hear about this?’ He said we ignore stuff like that but I was hot because I love the ladies. What I’ve learned in this business is that people will make their own reality of whatever they want to. What I encourage my fans to do, and people that just have a sensible mind … is you can’t allow whatever someone else says to be your truth. Just because it’s written on an Internet blog that has so many viewers or so many hits, it doesn’t make it true. I just keep living my life, you know the truth always comes to light.”
