Hundreds of grade-school students packed the Regal Hollywood 24 Cinema in suburban Atlanta for a Yogi Bear Youth Leadership Rally and a lesson in how to be “smarter than the average bear.” The event, which included kids getting to view the movie Yogi Bear was presented by the Boys & Girls Club of Atlanta in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures and the Atlanta Dream WNBA professional basketball team.
WSB-TV Atlanta anchor Jovita Moore hosted the Dec. 14 rally and spoke with the young tikes about leadership, and being respectful to their teachers and their parents. The kids were given popcorn and soft drinks and got an advanced view of the Warner Brothers 3-D film, Yogi Bear.
Newly installed Atlanta Dream president and chief operating officer Toby Wyman, of the WNBA, also spoke at the pre-screening rally and spoke to the kids about the different ways a person can lead. Moore and Lyman added to the fun by enabling the kids to win prizes if they accurately answered questions about leadership, the Atlanta Dream and Yogi Bear.
“We got contacted by folks putting on the event to get involved with the Boys & Girls Club about character and leadership. Those are certainly pillars that are important to us,“ he says. “Anytime we have [an] opportunity to talk to youth about that, you know, it’s a big part of our fan base, we take that opportunity to do that.”
At the conclusion of the Yogi Bear screening, the children received additional gifts for their educational pleasure and leisure. –terry shropshire
