‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Inception’ Head the List of Top Movies of 2010

When it came to movies, 2010 was a veritable mixed bag. For every delectable treat like the unforgettable Inception, there were at least 10 stomach churners (hello, The Last Airbender). But those rotten apples didn’t spoil the whole cinematic bunch, the year offered several impressive offerings. So before we officially say goodbye to the year that was, let’s take a look back at our top 10 flicks for 2010.

1. Despicable Me Shame on you if the prospect of an animated flick holding down the top spot in this year’s rankings made you do a double take. In the year of redemption (Mike Vick, T.I. … scratch the last one), this flick was the ultimate story of bad guy turned good, and worthy of this year’s top spot.

2. Inception If you go to the theater with the sole purpose of mindless fun, then Inception certainly isn’t the movie for you. This intense mind trip was easily one of the best crafted movies in more than a decade, providing the type of mental stimulation often absent in Hollywood flicks.

3. Toy Story 3 The Toy Story franchise has excelled at building animated characters with more depth than 90 percent of live action films. This third installment may be the best of the bunch. Well done Pixar. Very well done.

4. The Social Network Who knew that a movie based on the rise of Facebook could be so deliciously scandalous? The ingredients of this true-life story added up to one of the best movies of the year.

5. Waiting For Superman This gripping documentary chronicling the cavernous holes in the foundation of our nation’s school system was so good that it should probably be ranked even higher on this list. Director Davis Guggenheim crafted a masterpiece that should force us all take stock of the environment that are children are educated in.
