Former talk-show host and medical marijuana activist Montel Williams has admitted to using the drug as a way to relieve the chronic pain multiple sclerosis causes him.
But after attempting to pass through General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee on Tuesday, Jan. 4, Williams was arrested when TSA agents discovered a marijuana pipe in his carry-on bag. He was fined $484 and released.
Marijuana is often used for medicinal purposes. Fifteen states have enacted laws that allow the use of medical marijuana. However, it’s still illegal to possess the drug and paraphernalia in most jurisdictions.
Many prominent figures have spoken out in support of the decriminalization of marijuana and it will likely be a major political issue in the 2012 election. –a.r.
