Through countrywide rallies and signed petitions, the STAND ministry, operated by Condrey, hopes to reintroduce teacher-led prayer in schools across the country. “Prayer in the school never left,” explained Condrey. “We are looking to re-establish prayer, teacher-led prayer, back into our schools, and empower them to stand up for Christ. Everybody thinks it’s all ‘Jesus, Jesus, Jesus’ and it is, but we’re about advocating for the kingdom. We want to address real issues that have an impact on our community as well.”
“We need to pray,” added Jones, whose new album is titled Dominionaire. “We need people to start invoking their right to pray. Whether it’s the janitor in the school pushing brooms or the teacher — we need to pray.”
Throughout Canton’s 10-song set, participants listened to how the community at large can rid schools of bullying, violence in schools, and instituting greater expectations in the student body at large.
The grassroots organization Pray or Die also attended the event. Established in 2007, Pray or Die (www.prayordie.org) began as a collegiate initiative that garnered prayer from students attending various higher learning institutions. In its fourth year, Pray or Die has become a global initiative that promotes prayer as the driving force to successful living. In conjunction with Condrey’s initiative, the two groups hope to make teacher-led prayer in public schools legal once again.
Praise 102.5 FM provided giveaways for the audience and kept the crowd engaged with chants and contests.
