During the bevy of NBA All-Star weekend activities in the City of Angels, some celebs showed that they can actually handle their own on the court. Common got some round-ball skills to go along with his improved acting and phenomenal lyrical game. Justin Bieber actually showed proper form when he popped a left-handed three from the left wing and, of course, the girls in the stands practically lost consciousness from his make. Trey channeled his inner Magic Johnson, deftly handling the rock for most of the night and dishing out a couple of nice dimes to his celeb teammates. Nick Cannon, on the other hand, needed to polish up his floor game.
The West Squad, led by Trey, Justin, former Michigan Fab Five Jalen Rose, was coached by the legendary Earvin “Magic” Johnson who got the loudest ovation of anyone, save Bieber and Trey. The East, led by Common, Nick Cannon, former NBA player Chris Mullen and actor Michael Rapaport, was coached by Hall of Famer Bill Walton of UCLA fame.
While the basketball game was revved up in full gear, those shameless media whores, the Kardashians plus Lamar Odom, put on an extra production as they noisily made their way to their seats and primped for the cameras. Bruce Jenner’s electric coif was loud enough and so hideous that it would have made Stevie Wonder‘s eyes hurt. Anyway, Rob Kardashian came off the bench for the West squad. And the Kardashians showed love to their sibling by unleashing incoherent screams of support, especially Khloe, who would then look over at media row to ensure that her carefully choreographed behavior was being recorded for posterity. I’ve never seen anyone work so hard to make love to the camera as Khloe and this family.
Speaking of love, the West squad showed mad love to Bieber in the second half, setting him up with some easy makes and ensuring that he captured the game‘s Most Valuable Player Award. Another obvious and orchestrated move, sure, but it was all good with such a lighthearted affair. –terry shropshire
