Rapper Chamillionaire Talks Social Media During Grammy Week

Rapper Chamillionaire Talks Social Media During Grammy WeekGrammy week is in full swing, and platinum rapper Chamillionaire made the trip to Los Angeles to participate in the festivities. The “Riding Dirty” star participated in the official Grammy Social Media Rock Star Summit, and had some interesting thoughts on the music industry, his passion for social media, and his all-important connection to the fans. Here are a few of the highlights.

His Thoughts on Myspace…

I actually liked Myspace, but so many rappers started spamming me their music, and I said to myself, “it’s time to leave this place.”

His greatest Twitter mistake…

There was a time that I decided to follow some of my followers—you know, just so they can feel like we were connected. But I told them to promise me that they wouldn’t flood my DM box if they did. But that didn’t work, and I got overwhelmed with direct messages from fans. So now, I just delete those messages.

His understanding of the power of Facebook…

You can have a lot of followers on Twitter, but more often than not, those fans are from the USA. As I travel around the world, I’ve begun to notice that Facebook is truly global. I can be in Brazil and ask the fans who has Twitter and only a handful of people will respond. But if I ask who’s on Facebook, the whole place will erupt. So what I do now is take a picture of the crowd, and tell them that I will be placing this picture on my Facebook, and they need to go tag themselves. Instantly, I get a whole new stream of fans from another part of the globe.
