A lot of pro athletes fail to prepare for life after sports. Did you always want to go into business for yourself?

I’m not just a basketball player. I was never really sure that I wanted to go pro after college. But when I was drafted, I always had my mind on what I would do next. I got a business degree from UConn.

Why did you decide to create a shoe line?

I decided to start a shoe line because I have a hard time finding shoes since I wear a size 13. I also have a lot of friends who have a real interest in shoes. Takera Shoes are very comfortable. The bottom of your foot and heel will be well protected. They are also wider than most shoes.

What advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs?

Whatever you like and whatever is in your heart, follow it. I’m still learning about the business myself, but I want to make it something that I can grow with time. There are no guarantees in basketball. I want to use my education and set myself up for the future.
