DALLAS — Entertainers and pro athletes aren’t immune from getting swept up in the same euphoric Super Bowl typhoon as the rest of us folks. They just do it up on a bigger scale with their thicker stacks and cadre of A-list friends. Rolling Out caught up with a handful of the throngs of celebrities whipping around town at the 5th annual Direct TV Beach Bowl Celebrity Flag Football Game. We asked them who they thought was going to hold the Lombardi Trophy at the end of Super Bowl XLV between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, and what was their best time during the Super Bowl week.
Marlon Wayans, one part of the Wayans’ comedy dynasty:
Super Bowl pick? “Ohhh, bruh! You know what it is! Black and yellow, black and yellow.”
What was the best time during Super Bowl week? “Doing stand up comedy with my brother; that was the most fun.”
Who have you seen that you admire? “Dude, I see me when I wake up every morning. I be like, ‘Wow! That’s Marlon Wayans! Dude, can I get your autograph? And he never signs for me. Never. I hate that dude.”
The Weather in Dallas: “I didn’t like it because we brothers get ashy. I had to go get my lotion game up. I don’t get turned down by the ladies. You just gotta find an ashy woman.”
Desmond Howard, Heisman Trophy winner at Michigan and Super Bowl MVP with the Green Bay Packers:
Super Bowl Pick? “I like Green Bay. I think they’re peaking at the right time. I like what Aaron Rodgers is bringing to the table. As a quarterback, [Rogers] brings a combination of mobility and accuracy that will probably give the Steelers some problems.”
Best part of Super Bowl Week? I went to the Playboy Party yesterday with Snoop Dogg. I’m barely walking today. I told [his flag football team], ‘I don’t want to play today; just let me coach. I can’t run. Snoop killed it last night. He killed it.”
How the blizzard and ice storms impacted Dallas-Forth Worth: “If you wanted to get around the city from Monday through Wednesday, you should have brought [ice] skates.”
Warren Moon, Hall of Fame Quarterback in both the NFL and Canadian Football League (CFL):
Super Bowl pick? “I really don’t have a favorite. I think both of those teams are similar in a lot of different areas. But I think Pittsburgh [will win it], because they will find a way to win it in the end.”
Best party of Super Bowl Weekend? “There are always good parties during Super Bowl week, and so many of them. I was at the Grey Goose party last night with the Black Eyed Peas. I was at the Leather and Lace Party, and I’m going to the Maxwell party tonight.”
What about this atrocious Texas blizzard? “Nothing is shut down, but you just gotta get there. That’s the key.”
Eddie George, Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State and former Tennessee Titan:
Super Bowl Pick? “The Pittsburgh Steelers.”
What’s the best part of the Super Bowl week? “I’m deejaying a party at the Rosewood Hotel.”
Has the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry been cheapened by the Wolverines’ consistently bad play in the new millennium? “I like it and I don’t. It’s not competitive, 45-7, 37-7. It’s not what it used to be. We need Michigan to come back a little bit … just a little.”
