Are you sure you’re wearing the correct bra size? I thought I was until I stopped at Intimacy, a bra boutique that features bra fit specialists and a diverse offering of bras and other intimate apparel.
When I arrived at the Phipps Plaza location in Atlanta, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who told me that a bra stylist would be with me shortly. The stylist was very fun and showed me around. She educated me on the history of the company, the different styles and brands, bra care and more. I was nervous and eager to discover what size I truly wore.
We headed to the dressing rooms at the back of the store. Images of several female icons were posted on the dressing room doors. I chose the Lucille Ball room.
After taking measurements, the stylist informed me that in contrast with what I previously believed, I’m not a 36 DD. I am a 34 G! I was taken aback for a moment. The stylist comforted me and showed me areas where my previous size was too big and revealed other places that needed more coverage.
Encouraged, I began to shop, trying on several styles that offered a mix of lace, some underwire, tee-shirt bras and more. Due to my ample size (what some people call being “top heavy”), I’ve always been concerned about posture, so the stylist also offered me a selection of bras that featured structural support.
After I picked a few select items, she gave me some great tips for caring for my bras, adding that when you buy a good bra, special care can make it last twice as long:
- Clasp together before washing
If you can, wash by hand; if not, place the machine on the gentle cycle
Use lingerie cleaner because even Woolite is too harsh (certain detergents break down the elastic)
Use a lingerie bag
Lay flat to dry
Never wear a bra two days in a row (the fabric needs time to rest)
In the end, I had a great experience and I’ll be back to Intimacy to find the perfect strapless bra. They also do custom bras and alterations, which I was told I would need since my back is smaller. –tammie reed
