Walt Disney World Resort Animal Kingdom Lodge

Walt Disney World Resort Animal Kingdom LodgeUpon arriving in Orlando for the Disney’s Dreamers Academy at Walt Disney World with Steve Harvey and Essence magazine, the Magical Express deposited me in front of an enormous hotel called the Animal Kingdom Lodge. And as if the premise that brought me here wasn’t grand enough (the DDA is dedicated to promoting hope and inspiring young people) I was amazed and in awe when I entered the lobby and took in the scale of it all. I mentioned to a hotel staff member that this was my first trip to Disney World and he responded by giving me a large pin-on button that read ‘First Visit.’

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is an African Lodge style resort that has 43 acres of wildlife preserve. The resort also offers African inspired Walt Disney World Resort Animal Kingdom Lodgearchitecture that is exceptional in it’s detail and Motherland influences. I loved the african artifacts, mud fireplaces and the savannas where animals roam freely. There are 30 species of wildlife inhabiting the property just beyond the main lobby and I was startled and surprised to see a giraffe right outside my window when I opened the drapes. In fact at any given time you may stumble across  a Red River hog, a flock of  flamingos, a muster of marabou storks, ostriches and more.

The rooms range from standard to luxury and can comfortably accommodate four guests per room. My room has an amazingly comfortable queen size bed and a bunk bed as well. Its incredibly spacious with vibrant colors, beautiful drapes and exquisite decor. Some of the other amenities and services include  newspaper delivery, a Pak-n-Play crib, refrigerators, luxurious bathtub and high speed internet access. Of course there is a spa facility and fitness center, baby sitting and child care and uzima pools, but — wait for it — two award -winning restaurants!

So far I am loving my stay. I’m feeling very relaxed and the flat screen TV I’m watching is crystal clear. I will definitely have to bring my family back for a vacation. –tammie reed
