Without a doubt, spring has sprung and it was more than apparent at the Vinings’ Home Depot as members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s Rho Zeta Omega Chapter came out in full force to the Girls’ Night Out event on Thursday, March 24, 2011, donning their pearls and vibrant pink and green.
The free event featured Do-It-Herself (DIH) workshops, demonstrations, prizes and product information on eco-friendly gardening, catered refreshments and a Kiss 104.1 live remote.
Every attendee that signed in received a swag bag filled with girly goodies, including a $5 gift card, and became eligible to win prizes — a custom pink Husky open tool tote and a pair of green gardening gloves.
For those whose purchases totaled $50 or more, they received a signature Home Depot “Do-It-Herself Diva” baseball cap and matching tote filled with an essentials tool kit, available in Coach-colored khaki and brown or Home Depot orange and black.
Guests were educated on how to best develop their gardening skills, including how to grow plants and vegetables, and how to practice environmental sustainability and responsibility using eco-friendly methodologies. Activities included instructional learning with Ryobi, BayerAdvanced and Ortho reps.
Home Depot’s manager of multicultural marketing, Melissa Brown; and marketing manager, Ken Rye; and personal shoppers as well as a host of staff were on hand to ensure the ladies received VIP treatment.
According to the AKA’s Rho Zeta Omega Chapter’s president, Jennifer Turner, this fun-filled evening was planned in conjunction with the sorority’s “Green and Gorgeous Garden: Learning to use your Green Thumb Naturally” initiative. –yvette caslin
