Iyanla Vanzant Speaks, 30 Honored at 'Sister to Sister' Event in Houston

Phenomenal, inspiring, uplifting and empowering are a few words to describe the night as people from around the world attended the standing-room-only event, “Sister to Sister: Celebrating the Power and Purpose of Sisterhood,” featuring world-renowned author and spiritual teacher, Iyanla Vanzant.

The event was sponsored by Deavra Daughtry and the Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation at the gorgeous InterContinental Hotel in Houston in commemoration of National Women’s History Month. The Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation (TWEF) is a nonprofit organization that has been bringing value to the community and its partners for more than 10 years. TWEF focuses on programs that empower the family and community through financial literacy, mentorship and personal development.


Thirty dynamic women impacting the community and business sectors were honored with the International Empowerment Award for their philanthropy, mentorship and global influence. After a heartfelt exhortation given by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, keynote speaker Iyanla Vanzant held an intimate community dialogue, closing out the night with reading excerpts from her book, Peace from Broken Pieces.
