With the Internet and social media, why is it necessary to hire a PR Firm?
Social media is great. After all it is public relations, too, but I believe a person who specializes in PR can help your company get the media exposure needed. Although it seems like social media has completely taken over, there’s nothing like the personal touch of a publicist and a PR firm. Despite what some may believe, the traditional media is still alive and social media is the icing on the cake. A PR firm can plan and strategize a plan to help catapult your company to higher levels, help your image and brand you. It has now become important to create a name for yourself online as well as offline. A publicist can put together a strategy, a publicity campaign versus someone randomly posting material on Facebook and Twitter without a plan in place to target the traditional media.
What major changes have you witnessed in your industry?
Some of the major changes that I’ve witnessed is the technology and everything has gone electronic. That’s not to say the traditional way of sending out media kits is obsolete because I find a lot of publications still want the traditional media kit mailed to them.
Do you mentor others?
Yes, I do mentor others. For me, it’s all about giving back and helping others become the best that they become.
How do you stay current and relevant?
I basically stay current by reading everything I get my hands on. I love the bookstore and the Internet; so I’m always reading. There are a lot of websites that focus on PR, marketing, social media, so you can never run out of material to read. Also, networking is another way I stay current.
What is the last book you read? What did you choose that book?
Claim Your Victory Today: 10 Steps that will Revolutionize Your Life by Dr. Creflo Dollar. I’m a spiritual being and I feel like I am a work in progress; so I’m constantly trying to be the best that I can be and manage my business and personal life in a professional, yet godly manner.
Who do you have on speed dial?
I have my oldest brother on speed dial. I’m close to him and he inspires me to reach for the stars.
