I hope I made my daughter proud yesterday at her school’s annual Career Day. I was a bit nervous about speaking to the eighth grade class mainly because it was my daughter’s peers. She instructed me on what to wear, how to style my hair and makeup and to definitely be on time. She is a mini me, I swear, but I love her so much.
Many parents gathered at Creekland Middle School to share stories about their jobs while Mr. Keith Jordon was the keynote speaker to a room full of 8th graders. I love to talk to the kids and they can relate to me. I had two 30- minute sessions and the kids asked me many questions about my career at rolling out magazine as a lifestyle editor, who I’ve interviewed, how to start a blog and more.
They kept me on my toes and were so enthusiastic. I think it’s important to give back to our youth and community because kids need to see that they can achieve their goals with a little support, confidence, positive role models, endurance and a great attitude!
When my daughter got home from school she said the kids told her I was cool and one of the best speakers there! I was tickled pink to find out I was well received. I hope they invite me back next year, I had a Pinktastic time! I would like to thank Ms. Grovner for the personal invite and send a shout-out to all the kids at Creekland! –xoxo, tami reed
