'Granny Bandits' Arrested for Armed Robberies, Pickpocket Ring

Now it’s the grandmas who are getting gangsta. One elderly woman has just been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies in Fontana, Calif., this week.

On the other side of the country, four elderly women in Sterling Heights, Mich., outside of Detroit, were caught stealing over a half-million dollars as part of a sophisticated pickpocket ring. We suppose those Social Security checks aren’t enough to cover expenses so these five women had to go out and get their pimp game going.

Fontana police said a crime analyst who put together a flier to catch the “Granny Bandit,” 51-year-old Dodi Wasbotten, who was wanted in a series of armed robberies in Southern California, spotted the suspect during her lunch break.

The Associated Press said Fontana Police Chief Rod Jones thanked the analyst for helping detectives catch Wasbotten on Wednesday, hours after she allegedly robbed a woman outside a Target store.

Police had been searching for a woman suspected in four stickups in as many days. Victims described being held up by a middle-aged or elderly woman outside department stores. They said the woman also took off in a dark sedan.

Jones said Wasbotten’s sedan matched the vehicle description, and that items belonging to one of the victims were found inside her car.
