On Choosing a Stylist
Shopping for hair as well as for a stylist is a process. I always say that consultations are ideal, but a referral is perfect. To maximize your extensions experience, you should choose a stylist that has great reviews. They also should be able to help you purchase the type of hair you need based on the look you desire and your hair type. Be specific and speak up about the desired length, curl, wave, longevity, price, etc. The more details you can give your prospective stylist, the easier it may be for the both of you to reach a conclusion on the type of hair that will be best for you.
On Healthy Maintenance
When it comes to extensions, be mindful of the amount of heat that you put to your own hair while wearing extensions. Some women have a tendency to curl or flat iron too much the sections of their hair that are left out of the extensions. Instead, switch up how you tie your hair down at night so that heat is not required in the morning. Methods like a silk scarf, satin pillowcase or pin curls are great options. For women who have a concern about the edges of their hair, it’s better to put heat to the extensions everyday than to apply heat to those small sections of hair that are left out.
On Routine Trims
Healthy trimming in between the times you are wearing extensions and your natural hair is key. Most women keep their extensions for a six- to 10-week time frame, which is why it is important to keep your ends in good shape.
