Yes, you read the title correctly! As I nurse my aching ankle back to health, I am still laughing and thinking back on what happened yesterday evening at the monthly Hello Stiletto event. This is going to be a funny story so sit back and relax. Hello Stiletto is a monthly shoe party where women gather and pull out their favorite shoes and meet up at a fun place and strut down the pink carpet showing off their heels.
I go monthly because I absolutely love shoes and it’s fun to see all the fashionable heels at the party. This time it was held at a women’s apparel store called Fox’s. As I walked in I saw women checking out their competition and snapping photos and making comments on all the shoes in the room. I arrived in a poofy tutu, bustier and flip flops. My sparkly secret weapons were tucked way down in my purse for no one to see. I didn’t want to reveal my latest shoes, I wanted it to be a complete surprise.
Bakers had sponsored my sparkly brand new Carinas for a previous affair that I didn’t make but they were perfect to wear for this event! They were fresh out of the box and I had never walked around in them. The hosts and creators of Hello Stiletto, Amanda and Melissa, announced that the shoe-off would be starting soon as the ladies hurried to grab their numbers and file in line. I was number 10 and that’s when I went behind some clothing and put on my sparkly show stoppers. As I began to walk, I didn’t realize they were so high (eight inches to be exact) but I thought I’m a diva, I got this.
As I made my way through the crowd and found my place in line, a lot of the ladies starting whispering and pointing, saying,”Oh my, look at those.” I was happy that everyone loved my shoes. Another lady had on a plain pair of heels but quickly changed into a fierce pair of tan Christian Louboutin stilettos with spikes. Oh my, the competition was getting fierce! Women were coming out the woodwork with fabulous shoes.
The judges were ready with their clipboards and the competition began. The ladies strutted and modeled the best they could down the pink carpet and showed off their fancy shoes. There were patent leather, rhinestones, designer heels, flowers and stripes — all unique in their own special way. Then it was my turn. I got to the middle of the carpet and all I knew was that I felt a wobble and I was going down! I felt my ankle lean to the side and I quickly did a squat move and sat on the floor. The crowd gasped. Everyone quickly came over to help me up and ask if was OK. It wasn’t a Carrie Bradshaw from “Sex and the City” kind of fall, where she strutted down the runway and fell chin first. It was more of a “Oh my, I’m falling let me pop a squat,” kind of fall. Needless to say, it was embarrassing, but as my fellow shoenistas told me, I fell gracefully and with style.
Out of about 15 or so ladies strutting down the runway, the judges called six of us back to the carpet, then it was narrowed down to three. I was a part of the lucky three and took home first runner-up! Spikey girl with the Christian Louboutin killer stilettos took home the grand prize, which was a Fox’s gift card, shoe necklace and bragging rights. I won a $25 dollar gift card, shoe necklace and an aching ankle.
The judges said I had a great personality and I got up and kept on going, that’s what they loved about me. I would like to thank Hello Stiletto, Fox’s and all the ladies in attendance for a great time. It was so fun and I’m doing a lot better. Stay tuned for Hello Stiletto’s annual Shoe Ball for a great cause. I will be one of the judges for the charity event.
