Hines Ward, NFL Star and 'Dancing with the Stars' Winner, Busted for DUI

Hines Ward, the Hall of Fame NFL candidate with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the winner of the latest season of “Dancing with the Stars,” was apprehended for suspicion of driving under the influence in his hometown of Atlanta.

Ward, the two-time Super Bowl champion who also won the MVP of Super Bowl XL, was arrested when he was stopped early Saturday morning, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office. He was booked at 3:41 a.m. on July 9 and released on $1,000 bond.

Ward was a breakout star at the University of Georgia before being drafted in 1998 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he has remained his entire career. He put together credentials suitable for entry into the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, based upon his consistent all-around play at the wide receiver position as well as his legendary penchant for delivering crushing blocks on opponents. He is also admired universally by teammates and opponents for his exemplary comportment on and off the field during his lengthy NFL career, which is why this alleged DUI arrest took many by surprise.

This is the second time in two months he’s had a newsworthy encounter with police. In May, he was stopped by Los Angeles police officers with guns drawn when he was falsely believed to be driving a stolen vehicle.
