Tayshana Murphy wanted her last year in high school to be her most memorable. As a stand out basketball player at Murry Bergtraum High School, Murphy wanted to concentrate on school work, sports and determining which college she would attend.
She was rated by many reputable publications as one of the top female basketball players in the country. However, Murphy will never get the chance to reach her full potential.
On the morning of Sept 11., Murphy was shot and killed at the Grant Houses in Harlem, New York. According to police, Murphy attended a party with a group of friends in Harlem hours before the shooting.
After a group of teens from a near by housing projects got into an altercation, Murphy decided to go home when she was approached by the gunman. Murphy was mistaken for a teenage boy who was involved in the altercation.
After pleading with the gunman for her life, Murphy was shot on the fourth floor of her hallway building.
Police have yet to arrest anyone for the senseless murder.–amir shaw
