Dr. Cornel West was arrested on Oct. 16 in Washington, D.C., while protesting with fellow demonstrators on the steps of the Supreme Court about corporate influence in politics.
According to CBS News, a spokeswoman for the Supreme Court said 19 protesters were arrested yesterday afternoon at the Stop the Machine protest in Washington’s Freedom Plaza, after refusing to leave the grounds of the court. West was one of the many arrested, according to Ann Wilcox, an attorney and legal adviser to the protesters.
West, who earlier visited the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall, joined the throng of demonstrators in the anti-war and anti-corporate greed protest, which marked the 10-year anniversary of start of the war on terrorism in Afghanistan.
There is no word yet on when West and his fellow protesters will be released from police custody or if they will face any legal consequences. Stay tuned as the story develops. –nicholas robinson
