The fact that Marietta Davis’ team played the girlfriend anthem, “Fine,” by Mary J. Blige for her grand entrance at the company’s kickoff meeting at Lake Lanier says something about her personality. A general manager for Microsoft, Davis is vibrant, authentic and transparent. Her job duties include managing Microsoft portfolio products for large enterprise companies like The Home Depot, Coca-Cola and Bank of America in six states; Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, The Carolinas and Florida.
Davis is also a wife and a mother of two sons with special needs — her older son is high-functioning autistic and her younger son has a significant hearing loss.
Yet, she manages it all with extreme composure and a great spirit.
On staying balanced …
“I have a phenomenal husband that is very supportive of my career. We made a decision long ago that one of us would have to have more flexibility. He’s a CPA and works for the IRS’ tax division. I have a very strong eco system — my parents, health care and childcare providers. Microsoft has a wonderful policy, a spirit that supports the women in the business so that you can have balance in your life. I can go to my son’s school and be a room mom, play Kinect, and start my [work] day at 9 or 10 a.m. Technology keeps me connected to my family. If I am in another part of the country, I can play Xbox with my son via my Microsoft Windows mobile phone, or communicate with him on Facebook or email.
Davis’ definition of success …
“Rely on your higher power … God. Diminish yourself and look for ways to support and help others. I have been blessed to give back to the community.” –yvette caslin
