“When you give to the UNCF, everyone comes away a winner — the students, colleges and universities, local businesses and the community at large,” shares Miranda Mack McKenzie, the newly appointed area development director responsible for the organization’s fundraising campaign in the metropolitan Atlanta market and ambassador for UNCF Atlanta.
McKenzie has volunteered and avidly supported the UNCF ever since she graduated from the UNCF-member institution, Morris Brown College, and espouses the UNCF’s mission to provide educational opportunities and help students attend and get through college. “Education is society’s great equalizer. UNCF is such an important nonprofit organization for students and colleges across the country,” she explains.
McKenzie spent the past 30 years in the beer business. She recently retired from her position as the director of community affairs for Anheuser-Busch Companies after 17 years of service.
“I’ve moved from being the person who represented the company in supporting nonprofit organizations to being a part of a nonprofit organization that solicits support from major corporations. In this new role, I am responsible for our corporate campaign and meeting with leaders to encourage them to support the UNCF … it’s an important role and one that I feel I can fulfill successfully,” shares McKenzie.
The Mayor’s Masked Ball in Atlanta is UNCF’s signature fundraising gala and one of the city’s premier social events. It’s held every December.
McKenzie closes by offering her firm belief that “if you’re going to be a part of an organization, it needs to be one that is making an impact on the people in the community it serves.” –yvette caslin
