Music industry star, Young Jeezy, held a private viewing of his documentary that will coincide with the release of his fourth album, TM103: A Hustlerz Ambition. The film will chronicle the drug-slinging trap rapper’s evolution and explore his dual personalities — Jeezy the rapper, and Jay Jenkins the man, with a focus on pivotal points along the path to becoming a bona fide player in the rap game.
While the glimpse into his personal history is informative and helps to understand his overall story, the film — which is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and directed by Chris Robinson — is intended to shed light on Jeezy’s ambition and relentless drive excel.
After linking up with his boot camp buddy Demetrius “Kink” Ellerbee, both men took their talents to Kink’s home city of Macon, Georgia where they promoted a lifestyle that focused more on achievement than the gang violence that had previously permeated the streets. Having raised enough money from hustling, the duo purchased a studio. Following their success with the Young Gunz/CTE movement and the mixtape Tha Streetz Is Watchin, — along with regional shows that Def Jam executive Sean Pecas described as “cult rallies” — Jeezy was courted and signed by famed music producer L.A. Reid and released his platinum-selling debut album, TM101 in 2005.
‘The Snowman’ saw many of his friends lose their lives or go to prison, while the Young Gunz/CTE movement continues to gain in popularity and Jeezy straddles the line between of being an entrepreneur who remains loyal to the streets and a music industry icon.
In addition to Jay-Z, commentary from Def Jam employees and hip-hop heavyweights like Diddy, DJ Drama, Rihanna, Bun-B, Drake and The Family Hustle’s T.I., is included in the documentary, most of which focuses on Jeezy’s impossible-to-ignore authenticity.
“He’s believable, you believe him,” says Young Money’s Drake of the Atlanta-based rapper. Jay-Z also gives a nod to Jeezy for being an artist whose content isn’t “just visiting the topic,” but one who has actually lived and breathed the stories he’s telling. ‘It’s definitely something to motivate you and keep it going,” says the music mogul. Thug motivation 2012? With a release date of Dec. 20, TM103: A Hustlerz Ambition is a must see before the year’s end.
