Floyd Mayweather’s jail sentence will be postponed. On Jan. 6, a Las Vegas judged decided to move his jail sentence from January to June. Sentenced in December of 2011 for a domestic abuse charge against the mother of his kids, the January sentence could have been a major TKO to Mayweather’s career.
Mayweather will now have the opportunity to train for the next four months to prepare for a prizefight. Sports enthusiasts are hoping that Mayweather will finally meet Manny Pacquaio in the boxing ring on May 5 in Las Vegas.
The fight will likely be the most lucrative boxing match in the history of the sport. In fact, the potential match was one of the main reasons Judge Melissa Saragosa decided to postpone Mayweather’s sentence. Mayweather’s lawyers swayed Saragosa by presenting the promise of a huge financial boost that the fight would bring to the city of Las Vegas.
However, should a man who admitted to hitting the mother of his two kids, as the kids watched, be allowed to dodge punishment in the name of dollars? Millions of women are abused each day and feel trapped in relationships that are physically and mentally unhealthy. Judge Saragosa proved that it’s OK to beat women if you have enough money to help relieve a pathetic city of its massive debt.
