Nas and Jay-Z
Following the death of Biggie Smalls in late 1990s, the New Yorkrap scene needed a new king emcee, and who better to duke it out for the crown than New York’s finest, Nas and Jay-Z. When these two hip-hop titans battled for the crown in 2001, the world stood still as we waited to see who would come out the victor. Though each rapper traded some of hip-hop’s most lethal disses on wax (“Takeover” and “Ether”), the two eventually came to a stalemate and ended up sharing the crown, at least for a while. Now, the two are practically best buds.
