The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed its nominations for this year’s Academy Awards. As many have waited on pins and needles for the nominations list, most of us sat back with smiles because The Help was a shoe-in to win and here’s why:
The Help has brought in $169.6 million in ticket sales — more than double the domestic gross of any of the other eight films nominated in the category. Viola Davis was nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of maid Aibileen Cooper in the film. If she wins, she’ll be the second African American woman in history (after Halle Berry in 2002) to take home the award.
Octavia Spencer is in the running for Best Supporting Actress for her part as Minnie Jackson, the creator of the unforgettable “revenge pie.”
