Meeting up-and-coming filmmaker John Singleton turned out to be a turning point in Cube’s life and career. Up until then, he was trying to pull his own weight as an actor in a major motion picture, much less thinking about trying to do any writing, directing and true film-making. Singleton changed Cube’s whole paradigm of thinking. “If you can write a hit song,” Singleton told him, “you can write a movie.”
