While some expectant mothers don comfortable flats to ease their aching backs, the “most beautiful woman in the world” opted to keep things more fashionable. Although there’s been ongoing doubt about the validity of her birth, Beyoncé swears that she not only carried her baby for the full term, she did it while wearing heels.
As previously reported, People magazine dubbed her this year’s”most beautiful woman in the world,” a historic moment considering that she and Halle Berry are the first black women to hold that honor in 22 years. Berry was given the title in 2003. In her cover story for the publication, the usually private Houston songbird opens up on details of her pregnancy with baby Blue Ivy.”She’s just the cutest thing,” gushed Bey. She also noted that she “loves” changing her diapers.
Besides her infatuation with the joys of motherhood, she also confessed that the physical changes she experienced during pregnancy made her feel less than stellar. Like a number of expectant mothers she noted swelling in her face and body.
“I didn’t feel that I looked beautiful during birth — but who does? After being pumped with all those fluids and gaining so much weight, with my swollen lips and cheeks, I barely recognized myself,” she said in the issue hitting newsstands Friday. “I tried my best to roller-set my hair and I wore my [lip] gloss when I arrived at the hospital.”
During her pregnancy, the singer noted for being glamorous, was constantly spotted donning designer duds, more than that however she was constantly spotted wearing heels. According to Bey, she ‘committed’ to her high-heel habit even if the shoes were a few inches shorter.
“I committed to the end and wore my kitten heels. It makes me laugh thinking about it,” she recalled. “But after many hours of labor, I didn’t care how I looked. It was all about the miracle that God gave me — the opportunity to deliver a human being.”
“I never thought there would be a day when I wouldn’t wear heels. Now that I have a child, I walk around holding her all day, I’m buying loafers and oxfords. I love them, because they’re comfortable,” she says. “And shorter heels too. I’d always thought, ‘The higher the heel, the sexier.’ But now I’m like, ‘These are really sexy.’
She added, “[Jay-Z] loves it when I wear flat shoes, which is surprising – he never saw me in flats before! He likes me more natural – just the relaxed, natural me.”
Even the ‘Most Beautiful Woman’ in the world finds time to rest her feet from the confines of fashion. Let’s hope Beyoncé’s new found love for loafers starts a new trend for all of our backs’ sake. –danielle canada
